As the year winds down, we write up our end-of-year accomplishments, both individually and as a work team. Sometimes the quiet things that happen behind the scenes have the biggest impact, so I’d like to detail these here in hopes that you take advantage of some of our new offerings.
Dina Bergren, our most senior Career Services Advisor, has been working very diligently to strengthen our website by making content more robust and website navigation more user-friendly. Some of our website improvements this year include:
- We have nearly 60 archived webinars on our website including new ones this year on: 1) how to get published, 2) building your academic reputation in higher education, 3) strategies for a successful relocation, 4) temporary, contract and virtual opportunities and 5) undergraduate career success.
- We revamped our content on “Resumes” and “Networking and Branding” and added new resume samples to OptimalResume.
- New web pages were added: 1) Volunteer Opportunities, Internships and Service Learning and 2) Temporary and Freelance Opportunities.
- Dina developed and implemented “QuickAnswers” – a Google-type search box at the top of our homepage where you can type in your question to get a virtual answer.
We have doubled the number of webinars offered this year, partnering with faculty from education, management, human resources, nursing, health informatics, social work and the Center for Research Quality. (If you missed our webinars, please be sure to watch our archives.)
Additionally, we have implemented weekly Career Services Overview webinars to orient more students to our services, and Career Advisor Andrea Obrycki started monthly ResumeCafes to provide students with an opportunity to voice their resume questions live and benefit from hearing the questions and advice of their peers. Career Advisor Nicolle Skalski offered a three-part series of webinars featuring the latest LinkedIn networking and branding strategies and Career Advisor Denise Pranke developed a webinar and a comprehensive resource list to support the career goals of our active duty and veteran students and alumni.
It’s been another great year and I am super proud of our high-performing team. We’re already busy planning our 2014 webinars, so stay tuned!
We wish you and yours a very happy holiday season and a successful end to 2013.
